Meta

Youth and online safety

Project
To support Instagram in developing family safety features and resources, TTC labs conducted a global consultation with teens and guardians from diverse backgrounds, including multi-generational, single parent and LGTBQIA+.

Craig Walker facilitated the Australia consultation which included a series of co-design sessions with teens and guardians. These sessions were designed to gain insights into their thoughts, feelings and attitudes towards safety, privacy and social media. The insights were then presented back to a panel of experts and policy makers, to facilitate discussions about the challenges facing teens and guardians and the role Meta can play to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Experiencing and exploring social media has become an important part of growing up, becoming a right of passage for many teens.
Individual and group activities allowed teens to articulate their perspective on online safety.
The insights were compiled in a report and presented back to an industry panel of mental health experts.
